3.1 explain the terms homologous series, hydrocarbon, saturated, unsaturated, general formula and isomerism

3.1 •homologous series: •compounds that have the same general formula
                                        •have similar chemical properties 
                                        •show a steady change in physical properties 
     
      •hydrocarbon: molecules made up of hydrogen and carbon atoms only 
      
      •saturated: a hydrocarbon which only has single covalent bonds between all atoms

      •unsaturated: a hydrocarbon which has a double bond between the two carbon atoms
   
      •general formula: a formula which can be used to represent a group of compounds

      •isomerism: where the same number of the same type of atom can be bonded in a different order
