5.1 •potassium, sodium. lithium, calcium, magnesium and aluminium (PSLCMA) are all above carbon, and so are extracted by using electrolysis since they are harder to extract

                 •zinc, iron and tin (ZIT) are below carbon, and so are extracted by heating with carbon monoxide

                 •silver and gold are found naturally as elements, so are not extracted
